GRIGORI
Bartleby is a Grigori, also known as a Watcher, a certain denomination of Archangel able to read the soul like a book - specifically and especially, their sins. Bartleby can see the good and the bad, the stains and indiscretions in which people have partaken in the past. These could really range from mass fucking murder to... stealing a candy bar from a grocery store*.
This is just a little post to ask:
- what's up hey do you even have a soul
- can he peep the goods
- what kind of shit have you been up to, punk
This stuff may be irrelevant - hell, chances are he's probably not even going to bring it up in the conversation. He's not really some vigilante here to lecture all the murderers and thieves of the ship; quite frankly, he couldn't care less. You see enough genocidists (and you live with one for long enough) and you stop sweating the small shit. This is mostly just to figure whether he's talking to Mother Theresa or, like, Hitler and Skeletor's assbaby who pisses pure liquid malevolence and etc.

Is there even a soul for Bartleby to see? There is! She has a human soul but it's weirdly tangled up with the Throne of God, and seated on the Throne is God Himself.
Is it okay for him to see it? Yes!
What sort of things might there be to see on their soul? So here is the deal - he can probably tell that she is the Throne (don't tell Castiel yet though ;;) and probably tell that God is actually in residence in her head, since that's what Bartelby does. As for her human soul, it's not exactly pure, although she's pretty boring in a lot of ways since she hasn't done a lot of horrible things. However what she did do is use Creation to tie the Throne to her soul so that her brother wouldn't forget her and she would continue to exist, and he's welcome to know that.
(he can also know that she had a boyfriend who she didn't like, but used until she lost her voice because she didn't want to deal with guys asking her out. She was also used a lot by her dad in creepy notsexual ways to get him what he wanted with her mother, and her mother ignored her after she lost her voice because she thought that her daughter was crazy and then her mother forgot she existed)
